With the Oscars this evening, this week I decided to watch one of the previous winners of the Best Documentary Oscar – 2004’s Born into Brothels.
Born into Brothels is a cinema verite documentary about a group of kids, who are the offspring of prostitutes in Calcutta. The film focuses on the director’s efforts to give a better life to these kids, which includes teaching them photography and getting them enrolled in better schools.
I though that the documentary had a somewhat slow start and I found myself dozing off during the first half (which was annoying, considering the fact that the bulk of the film is subtitled). However, as the second half got more into being about the well-being of the kids, I found myself paying more attention.
Overall, it was a decent enough film.

Well, we have arrived at the date of the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards. The broadcast gala will be airing on CBC television at 8:00PM EST and I will be tuning in to see which Canadian films will win the big awards. I should note that I updated my nominee refresh post from last week to…
Today on IMDb’s Studio Briefing, there was a post about how reluctant studios are these days to give press screenings for films feared to get a negative response from critics. And, you know what, I don’t blame them. As long time readers of this blog may know, I have long had a grudge against film…

It is time for the 88th annual Academy Awards. This has been a very controversial year for the awards show, with many black actors planning to boycott over the fact that are the nominees are predominantly white. However, with Chris Rock hosting the show, it should still be an entertaining night. I also hope to…
Sorry for the delay, here is this weekend in movie. My make pick would be Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay the sequel to Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. This looks feature more political humour than the last film. Also coming out this weekend is Baby Mama, which stars former SNL co-stars…
