Box Office Thoughts for the Weekend of December 12, 2008

TheDaytheEarthStoodStill posterThe Day the Earth Stood Still topped the box office this weekend with an estimated gross of $31M. After two weeks at the top, Four Christmases dropped to second place with an estimated gross of $13.3M.

The only other new film to break the top ten was Nothing Like the Holidays, which opened in seventh place with an estimated $3.5M.

As for a trio of films opening in limited release, Doubt opened in nineteenth with an estimated gross of $225K, Grand Torino opened in twentieth with an estimated $284K, and The Reader opened in twenty-forth with an estimated $170K.

And that’s the box office thoughts for this week.
