Box Office Thoughts for the Weekend of August 22, 2008

tropic thunder posterThe box office estimates for the weekend are too close to call with Tropic Thunder ($16.1M) edging out The House Bunny ($15.1M) to top the box office for the second week in a row.

As for the other new releases, Death Race opened in third with $12.3M, The Longshots opened in eighth place with $4.3M, and The Rocker was way down in twelfth place with $2.8M.

Hamlet 2, which opened in limited release, opened in 22nd place with $435K. The number should go up when the film expands next week.

In other news, The Dark Knight made another $10.3M and the film is now a little over $10M away from breaking the $500M mark.

And that’s the box office thoughts for the week.
