The Four Horsemen reunite and team with a trio of young magicians to take on a crime syndicate in Now You See Me: Now You Don't. The Four Horsemen of J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson), Jack Wilder (Dave Franco), and Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher) have seemingly reunited after drifting apart. However, it turns out to be part of an elaborate con by young magicians/thieves Bosco LeRoy (Dominic Sessa), June McClair (Ariana Greenblatt), and Charlie Beez (Justice Smith), who are following in the Four Horsemen's footsteps. However, their antics catch the attention of the real J. Daniel Atlas, who wants their help to steal the Heart Diamond from South African jeweller Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike), whose family helps fund organized crime syndicates. It turns out that the secret society of The Eye has sent the other members of The Four Horsemen on the same job, reuniting them for the first time in a decade. After successfully stealing the heart diamond, the Horsemen have to figure out a way to take down Veronika's syndicate. This includes solving a series of magical riddles with the help of rival-turned-ally Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman). Now You See Me: Now You Don't Synopsis Now You See Me: Now You Don't is the second sequel to the 2013 film about magicians who moonlight as thieves. Director Ruben Fleischer returns to direct after Jon M. Chu took the reins for 2016's Now You See Me 2. The film also sees the return of Isla Fisher, who missed out on the second film, reunited with the leads Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco. In addition to the original Four Horsemen, Now You See Me: Now You Don't features a team of younger magicians played by Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers), Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie, Borderlands), and Justice Smith (I Saw the TV Glow). These young protegees are taken under the wing of the original horsemen to stop a crime syndicate run by Veronika Vanderberg, played by Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl). This includes the unveiling of a long-buried secret. My Thoughts on Now You See Me: Now You Don't Returning after a nine-year hiatus, Now You See Me: Now You Don't is somewhat of a return to form for this budding franchise. While the first film, a heist film that plays fast and loose with the logic of magic tricks, remains the best of the three, Now You See Me: Now You Don't rebounds from the convoluted Macau-set revenge plot of Now You See Me 2. While the magical element still borders on science fiction and fantasy, director Ruben Fleischer has figured out what makes this franchise work. Now You See Me: Now You Don't all but ignores the events of Now You See Me 2, even undoing the shoehorned replacement of Isla Fisher's Henley Reeves with Lizzy Caplan's Lula May, explaining Fisher's previous absence as her leaving magic for a domestic life. Of course, those who haven't watched the second film would probably end up wondering why Morgan Freeman's Thaddeus Bradley, one of the antagonists in the original film, is now an ally of the Four Horsemen, as the end of Now You See Me 2 revealed that Bradley was, in fact, the brains behind the secret society The Eye. Also conspicuous in his absence is the Four Horsemen's mentor, Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo), whose fate is explained as the reason the Four Horsemen haven't been together for a decade. As is the case with the previous two films, the plot of Now You See Me: Now You Don't itself is akin to a magic trick. This includes a third-act twist, where certain characters are revealed not to be who they appeared to be. While in hindsight it's quite obvious, I have to give credit to the film for how I was unable to guess the twist and was actually expecting someone else altogether to appear. Ultimately, Now You See Me: Now You Don't is the film that finally decides that this franchise is, which is the Fast and Furious of magician heist films. With a growing cast of both new and returning faces, and the fourth film of the franchise has already been greenlit, there is sure to be more magical heists to come. It's all one big magical family.
