A girls trip to the desert is disrupted by a group of aggressive men in Find Your Friends. Amber (Helena Howard), Lavinia (Bella Thorne), Zosia (Zión Moreno), Lola (Chloe Cherry), and Maddy (Sophia Ali) are five friends gathered for a weekend of partying, drinking and drugs in Joshua Tree. Starting on a party in a yacht, Amber finds herself alone as a makeout session with Tye (Blaine Kern III) turns into a non-consensual sexual encounter. This marks a poor start to the weekend, which is made worse when Amber becomes convinced that a group of aggressive men led by Jake (Jake Manley) is following the girls around the desert. Find Your Friends Synopsis Find Your Friends is a psychological thriller written and directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Izabel Pakzad, starring a young, female cast that includes Helena Howard (I Saw the TV Glow), Bella Thorne (Assassination Nation), Zión Moreno (Gossip Girl), Chloe Cherry (Euphoria), and Sophia Ali (Uncharted). The inciting incident involves Howard's protagonist of Amber, being the victim of rape, with her hard-partying friends being nowhere to be found when the assault occurs. This places a damper on the weekend, as Amber's friends, particularly Lavinia, accuse her of being a party pooper. However, it soon turns out that Amber's paranoid behaviour about a group of men is justified when some of the girls turn up missing. My Thoughts on Find Your Friends While Find Your Friends turns into a pretty grisly rape-revenge film in the final act, it comes after a very frustrating first two-thirds, where rape victim Amber is frequently victim-blamed and gaslit by not only her friends but also by the police. Even calling the film rape-revenge isn't exactly correct, since none of the men who terrorize the girls were responsible for the sexual assault in the first act, even though the men end up doing much worse. Find Your Friends also greatly suffers from having a cast not particularly known for their acting skills, apart from perhaps lead Helena Howard, with the film particularly solidifying my dislike of Bella Thorne.
