I thought I would use a minor controversy today to kick off a new recurring post for this blog, which encourages discussion amongst readers.
So the official TIFF12 schedule was released today and something really stood out: One of the ten Midnight Madness films, Martin McDonagh’s highly anticipated film Seven Psychopaths, was designated a premium screening.
One would assume that the screening was designated premium (which is twice the cost of a regular ticket) because the film boasts an all-star cast that includes Collin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, and Woody Harrelson. That said, it is unusual to charge a premium price for a midnight screening, especially since the other nine (some of which has some star power) are regularly priced.
So, I want to hear from you. What are your thoughts on the premium pricing for Seven Psychopaths? Are you still going to see the midnight screening or are you now going to wait for its regular release?

My seventh experience at the Toronto International Film Festival has come to a close. I had a pretty good experience numbers-wise, matching my 2007 numbers. However, I do have to say last year had more enjoyable films for me. Here is my wrap up: Top Three Favourite Films Suck The Disappearance of Alice Creed The…
Michael Dougherty’s Halloween-set anthology film Trick ‘r Treat has been yearly October viewing for me ever since the film was finally released in 2009, after previously being delayed for two years. I was one of the lucky few that got to see the film theatrically, since it played as part of the 2009 Toronto After…

Anyways, this week: A Good Day to Die Hard, Safe Haven, Beautiful Creatures, and TIFF Next Wave. Sean Patrick Kelly Sean Patrick Kelly is a self-described…
This year’s edition of the Toronto International Film Festival has a very eclectic Canadian film line-up. While some old familiar filmmakers have new releases, there is also a lot of young blood in this year’s line-up. The only thing missing is a new film by Xavier Dolan, who is still working on his follow-up to…
This weekend sees the release of Quentin Tarantino‘s new film Inglourious Basterds. The first is doing quite well in the reviews with a 89% Fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Also out this week is the new family film by Robert Rodriguez, Shorts, which only has a 38% Fresh rating. The worst reviews of the week…
This weekend, after nearly ten years, the Harry Potter series comes to an end with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2. If you think about it, the fact that they were able to finish the film series, with the bulk of the cast intact no less, is a huge achievement that…
