After the completion of the Toronto Film Festival last weekend, I left for a one week trip to Calgary. By pure coincidence, my trip coincided with the start of the Calgary International Film Festival, which begins tonight and runs until Oct 3.
Not wanting to turn down an opportunity, I figured that I should try and see a film at the festival before I fly back to Toronto on Monday. As such, I picked up tickets yesterday to see Bruce McDonald’s Trigger tomorrow evening (one of many films playing in Calgary after debuting at TIFF).
It should definitely be an interesting experience.

This year marked my third time going to the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary festival. With me seeing a grand total of 36 films, this year’s Hot Docs was one of my busiest film festival experiences ever. This year’s Hot Docs selection was at a particularly high quality and I ended up enjoying the majority…
Here is my final wrap-up for the 2011 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival. This was definitely my most busy film festival, with me seeing a grand total of 26 films over the 11 days. I was actually so busy this year that I feel that might actually scale back my festival experience a…
I’m becoming a regular on this now aren’t I? I make my fourth appearance on The Dew Over podcast talking about the Best Picture nominees from 2003, which is the year The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King swept the awards for Best Picture. I’m a little more in the background this time…
The official TIFF schedule was released yesterday and I was busy choosing the films that I plan to exchange my pre-festival volunteer vouchers for. It was a very tough choice, since I had to work around the six volunteer shifts I have during the festival (which has already eliminated many films I wanted to see). …
I’m a little late with this one, but I thought that I should still talk about my latest blu-ray purchase, the excellent British alien thriller Attack the Block. The disc is actually quite well featured, including a feature-length making-of documentary, as well as smaller features dealing with the creature effects, cast members, and descriptions of scenes that…
I’m going to wait a coupe weeks to see Disney’s A Christmas Carol and instead this weekend I will be seeing Richard Kelly’s The Box. Both films received mixed reviews at best with A Christmas Carol receiving a 55% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and The Box has a 46% Fresh rating. Also out this…
