Movies of the Moment – January 14, 2005

I was meaning to start this column last week, but I never found time to do it.

Basically, each week I will provide my thoughts about the major theatrical releases for the week.

These aren’t reviews and, chance are, I will never see the majority of the movies I talk about.

Let’s get started.

Elektra
In Daredevil, everybody paid more attention to ‘s Elektra instead of Affleck’s title character. As a result, it was a given that she be given her own movie. All I can say it that I am not very impressed by what I saw about the movie. It doesn’t look as downright awful, as Catwoman was, but it’s not that far off.

Racing Stripes
You know, I shouldn’t even be giving my thoughts about this movie. This movie is for kids and that’s that. At least it looks like a decent film instead of some of the other family fare coming out (Karate Dog anyone?). Though, I do agree, it could do without David Spades and Steve Harvey’s wisecracking flies.

Coach Carter
The latest in the batch of “Based on a true story high school sports movies.” While this looks like one of the better ones, I think I will give it a pass.
