The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

For the last few weeks I thought this film was very well-advertised for a foreign-language film and my curiosity was peaked.  The book is based on the novel of the same name and it is the first in a series of three films (the rest are scheduled to be released later this year).

Essentially the film involves a journalist who is called up to investigate a 40 year old case involving a girl who disappeared  He is is assisted in his investigation by a young computer hacker with a checked past.

I thought the film was quite good and it seems on par with North American thrillers (which is why it kind of sucks that they are planning a North American remake). One small beef I have (which may be resolved in the later films) is that the film has a very brutal and disturbing rape scene early on that didn’t seem to have any connection to the rest of the story.

Other than that, I thought this was a very good thriller and I look forward to seeing the other films in the series.

9/10
