News: Best Picture Voting Change

As you know, it was previously announced that the number of Best Picture nominees at The Oscars have increased to ten films.

Now it is being reported that the voting procedure has changed. Instead of voting for a single film, Academy members will now rank the ten films in order of preference. Apparently this is to ensure that there is a majority winner.

I think this is a great idea, since I was initially worried that the increased number of nominees would spread the ballet real thin. However, now that every film will (presumably) get a certain number of votes based on now high they’re ranked, it really makes this plan more workable.

Now, I’m really interested to see how this all turns out.
