Trailer Thoughts: Total Recall

totalrecall

As the latest product of Hollywood’s seemingly never-ending remake cycle, we have a new trailer out for the remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger science fiction film Total Recall, which is now starring .

I only have a very basic knowledge of the plot of the original (which I have yet to see), which is probably part of the reason why I was so confused by this trailer.  That, and the fact that the film seems to be a perfect example of the chop suey editing that seems prevalent in pretty much every action film these days.

What I did get from this trailer is that Farrell goes to do this spy simulation, which turns out to be real (or something like that).  What what I gather, the biggest difference in this new film is that the action no longer takes place on the planet Mars.  Instead, we have a sci-fi/action film somewhere on a futuristic, CGI-generated, planet Earth.

In all honesty, I’m not 100% sure if I am going to see this film.  I’m more interested in watching the original film, which I am sure will probably be a more entertaining sci-fi film than the CGI-enhanced films we get these days that all look the same.

Anyways, Total Recall opens on August 3.
