Announcing Blindspot 2017: Canada 150

Canada150Blindspot

It is time once again for me to announce the films that I plan to watch over the course of the next year as part of the Blindspot series. Since a huge event next year is Canada’s 150th anniversary as a country, it is a no-brainer that I would set out and watch films I haven’t seen from some of Canada’s top filmmakers. I will also delve into the infamous 1970s tax shelter era for my annual horror selection in October.

Without further ado, here are the films of Blindspot 2017, listed in chronological order:

  • Rituals (1977) – Peter Carter
  • Roadkill (1989) – Bruce McDonald
  • M. Butterfly (1993) – David Cronenberg
  • Double Happiness (1994) – Mina Shum
  • The Sweet Hereafter (1997) – Atom Egoyan
  • Last Night (1998) – Don McKellar
  • Bollywood/Hollywood (2002) – Deepha Mehta
  • The Barbarian Invasions (2003) – Denys Arcand
  • The Saddest Music in the World (2003) – Guy Maddin
  • C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005) – Jean-Marc Vallée
  • Polytechnique (2009) – Denis Villeneuve
  • Laurence Anyways (2012) – Xavier Dolan
