An ex-con trying to rebuild his life befriends a Syrian cab driver in SKEET. Billy Skinner (Sean Dalton) was one of the best skeets, or enforcers, working for St. John’s gangster, Leo (Garth Sexton). After spending three years in prison for attempted murder, Billy plans to clean up his life and repair his relationship with his estranged son Brandon (Jackson Petten). Billy ends up befriending Mohamed (Jay Abdo), or Mo for short, a Syrian cab driver whose family recently moved into the neighbourhood, and also strikes up a relationship with local girl Leah (Kate Corbett). Mo returns the kindness Billy shared towards his family by assisting on the latter’s path towards reformation.
SKEET Synopsis
SKEET is a crime drama co-written and directed by Nik Sexton. The film stars musician-turned-actor Sean Dalton, a former member of the rock band The Trews, as Billy Skinner, the titular skeet, which is Newfie slang for a tough guy. Billy returns home after a three-year stint in prison to find that his drug addicted mother has spent money that was meant as childcare money for Billy’s son Brandon. Billy gets to know his new neighbour, Mohamed, who gives Billy a free ride to his work placement at a chicken processing plant. Despite his attempts to become a better person, Billy fears that he may always just be a skeet.

My Thoughts on SKEET
SKEET is a film that Nik Sexton has been developing for nearly a decade, with the film even incorporating early test footage as flashbacks of both a younger Billy Skinner and his son Brandon. At the core of the plot of the film is the unlikely friendship that develops between Billy and Syrian immigrant Mohamed, with the latter willing to do anything to help Billy, even as his bad behaviour begins to resurface. Shot in a very gritty black and white, SKEET is an extremely well-done crime drama, built by an excellent lead performance by Sean Dalton. Don’t sleep on this one!
