Infinite Summer Synopsis

Infinite Summer is a science fiction coming-of-age story written and directed by Estonian filmmaker Miguel Llansó (Crumbs, Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway). The plot of the film focuses on the three female protagonists Mia, Grete, and Sarah, who begin having transhumanist experiences after using an experimental mindfulness respirator powered by an AI named Eleusis. After Sarah ends up hospitalized in a coma and Grete goes on the run, it is left to Mia to figure out what is the true endgame of Eleusis, before the Interpol detectives figure it out.

My Thoughts on Infinite Summer

Infinite Summer takes place in the near future, where augmented reality headsets are commonplace and an AI program is used to care for the animals at the Tallinn Zoo, where main protagonist Mia works. Through its very bizarre plot, Infinite Summer deals with themes that include technophobia, sexual awakening, and transcendence. While the subplot involving the Interpol detectives trying to figure out the origin of Eleusis ultimately does not have a satisfying resolution, Infinite Summer still ends up being an interesting transhuman experience.
