Attack the Block

AttackTheBlock

is a British sci-fi/horror/comedy that has been getting a lot of buzz for the past few month and it finally received a limited North American release.

The film has simple enough plot – a group of alien creatures attack a group of hoodlums within a south-London apartment block.  However, there is something with how the film is pulled off that just makes it a joy to watch.

Part of its appeal is that the film goes back and forth between being a serious sci-fi/horror film and comedy.  For me, it is the tension-breaking comedic moments that make the film.

It’s also nice to see a creature film that doesn’t rely on expensive CGI effects (the aliens are obviously puppets).

Overall, Attack the Block was a fun film that I highly recommend checking out.
