Film Info

Two friends on a self-isolation trip during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic find themselves pursued by a knife-wielding killer in Sick. Parker (Gideon Adlon) is a COVID-denying teenager who decides to self-isolate at her family’s cabin, accompanied by her best friend Miri (Bethlehem Million). However, it isn’t long until a knife-wielding attacker disrupts this isolation with a personal vendetta against Parker.

Sick is a COVID-19-themed slasher film directed by John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning) and co-written and produced by Kevin Williamson (Scream). In April 2020, just as COVID-19 restrictions began, the film follows best friends Parker and Miri. While Miri is careful about protecting herself, Parker is just using this self-isolation as an excuse for a cottage vacation. However, not long after they arrive, Parker and Miri are attacked by a black-clothed individual with a hunting knife.

In its most simple description, Sick is essentially Scream with a killer motivated more by COVID-19 paranoia than horror movie trivia. However, the plot is less about building a body count and more about a fight for survival, with the entire second half of Sick being an extended chase sequence. Altogether, Sick ends up being a pretty solid and timely slasher film.
