Wrong – Toronto After Dark 2012

WrongThere is no worse feeling than sitting in a movie theatre and watching a movie, in which everyone around you is laughing their heads off, yet you remain straight-faced at the weird and random events happening on screen.  The basic plot of has a man named Dolph Springer (Jack Plotnick) waking up to notice that his dog Paul has gone missing.  During his search for Paul, Dolph runs into a number of oddball characters, including a mysterious man named Master Chang (), private detective Ronnie (Steve Little), Dolph’s gardener Victor (Eric Judor), and the somewhat clingy girl that works a pizza restaurant Emma (). I suppose that much of your enjoyment of Wrong will depend on whether or not you find constant non sequiturs funny.  The film features everything from phone debates about pizza logos to rain inside an office to characters suddenly dying, before showing up alive in a later scene, to suddenly dying again.  While there are some things in this film I found sort of humorous, many of the gags resulted in more face palms than laughs for me.  As someone, who greatly enjoys laughing non-stop at comedies, the fact that I could not get past a minor giggle really made me feel bad. You can say that I had a “it’s not you, it’s me” reaction to Wrong.  Many of the people around me greatly enjoyed this film and were raving about it afterward.  However, like Quentin Dupieux’s previous film Rubber, the film just did not do it for me and I’m going to remain completely neutral on the film. 5 | INDIFFERENT
