A serial killer becomes obsessed with the cop on his trail in Psycho Raman. Ramanna (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is a serial killer in modern day Mumbai, who is inspired by the infamous 1960s serial killer Raman Raghav. After witnessing corrupt cop Raghavan’s (Vicky Kaushal) capacity for violence, Ramanna becomes determined to to lead her pursuer to the dark side, which includes stalking Raghavan’s girlfriend Simmy (Sobhita Dhulipala).
From Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur) comes this crime thriller about a killer and a cop, who despite being on the opposite ends of the low, might in fact be soulmates in the the world of psychotic killers, with Raghavan being the Raghav to Ramanna’s Raman. The story of Psycho Raman is told in eight chapters, which essentially chronicles Raghavan’s slow decent into the dark side.
If there is message that can be taken away from Psycho Raman is that there aren’t really any good guys or bad guys when you are dealing with two sociopaths. Ramanna has no real reason for killing, except that he enjoys it, with the film showing that he has no real barriers when it comes to his victims. However, Raghavan still has something of a conscience, even though there is a darkness brewing that Ramanna hopes to exploit. Altogether, Psycho Raman is a dark, but pretty OK thriller.
