TIFF10: Preliminary Film Thoughts

It is the time of the year when the line-up of films at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival slowly gets revealed. There have been film announcements for the last couple of weeks now and I thought I would give my opinions on some that stick out.
Buried – Rodrigo Cortés, Spain/USA
This is a film that I have already been anticipating to see and I am glad that it will be playing at the film festival.
Black Swan – Darren Aronofsky, USA
The Wrestler ended up being my favourite film when it showed at the festival two years ago and Aronofsky’s ballet-based follow-up looks intriguing.
Easy A – Will Gluck, USA
This Emma Stone-staring comedy looks like it could be this Juno or Whip It.
Jack Goes Boating – Philip Seymour Hoffman, USA
This film intrigues me because it is Hoffman’s directorial debut.
Score: A Hockey Musical – Michael McGowan, Canada
Nothing get more Canadian than this film.
Tabloid – Errol Morris, USA
I recently became a fan of Morris’ “non fiction” films, so I will definitely be interested in checking out his latest.
The Town – Ben Affleck, USA
Affleck’s last film as a directed caused a bit of a still, so I would be interested to see how this film turns out.
That’s all that strikes my fancy at the moment. I’ll give my opinion on further films as they are announced.
