Well, the time has come for the start of the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. I’ll be starting off my festival experience with the film After the Battle at 6:30pm and then I will hit the ground running with a very busy schedule that covers the full ten days of the festival.
I am hoping that I will be able to get enough of a breather throughout the week that I will be able to write some thoughts on the films that I see. I’m aiming for at least one review a day, mostly consisting of the major films in my line-up. At the end of the festival, I will make sure to summarize my thoughts on all the films that I did not have the chance to discuss during the week.
Also, if you haven’t already, make sure to follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook, as I will once again be posting Quick Thoughts on the films immediately after I see them.
Have a Happy Festival!

During the winter school break, the kids in a small village decide to have an epic snowball war. However, the odds are evened when new girl Sophie and her hothead…
Last couple weeks were arguably filled with more video game playing than movie watching, but I still watched a fair number of titles. Here is what I watched: The Ambassador – First Viewing (Cinema) – Decent exposé of the blood diamond trade. The End of Time – First Viewing (Cinema) – Avant Garde Doc My…
The quarterly short film showcase Shorts That Are Not Pants kicked off its second year last night at the Carlton Cinema. This fifth instalment featured everything from locally-made shorts, Canada’s Top Ten selections, Irish cop comedies, and a phone break-up visualized through animation. Some highlights from the showcase include: A couple films from British director…
I had an interesting experience this afternoon as I went to see The Grey. I went to my regular cinema the Cineplex Queensway and, as I always do, I motioned towards the ticket kiosks. I chose the second kiosk, which only had one person in front of me. When the guy in front of me…
These days when a disc labeled “2-Disc Special Edition” comes out, it can be hard to tell if it will be worth the extra money, since more often than not the extra disc only contains the film on Digital Copy. That is the case with Valkyrie, however the features that are included are pretty decent….
NOTE: I’M GOING REVEAL SOME SPOILERS IN THIS POST. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED. OK, yesterday I wrote all that stuff about the movie Cursed. The highlight of it all was my comments on how Miramax edited the film from a R to a PG-13 rating. I wished it was that easy. I can say that yes,…
