Oscars 2020 – Best Picture Profiles – Parasite

Parasite

In the days leading up to the 2020 Academy Awards, I will be profiling one of the nine Best Picture nominees

Read my Review

Number of Nominations: 6

Notable Awards so Far:

  • Golden Globes – Best Foreign Language Film
  • BAFTAs – Best Original Screenplay
  • Screen Actors Guild – Outstanding Performance by a Cast
  • Cannes Film Festival – Palme d’Or

the Film’s Chances:

I purposely saved Parasite for last out of these Best Picture nominee profiles, since the film is my personal favourite of the bunch and the one that I’m rooting for to win the big prize. However, Bong Joon Ho’s film has a lot of factors going against it, whether it be the Academy’s perceived prejudice against foreign-language films or the fact that Parasite is not an easy film to classify, featuring elements of comedy, drama, and suspense. In a perfect world, I would say that Parasite most definitely would walk away with Best Picture. However, right now I can only hope.
